IT STARTED WITH A CHAIR

Ikea’s new advertisement “Start Something New” tells the story of an old man and how his routine of feeding the birds in the park led to an unexpected series of travels. One day, as he walked to his usual spot to feed the birds, he found that the bench there was already occupied. So he got his own chair and because it was the folding kind, he was able to move to other areas in the park. He got farther and farther until eventually, he was going places and doing new things. Lesson learned: it’s never too late, as a friend put it, to “think out of the bench.”

THE LIGHTKEEPER AND SEAFOAM GREEN

I read Susan Wiggs’ The Lightkeeper over ten years ago. (Great book!) Every time I remember it, I always think of seafoam green because of a scene in the novel involving sea glass. Seafoam green is a refreshing color that makes you want to jump on a boat and go fishing. I can almost smell the sea!
